A sculptural installation by Abu Jafar

As part of Wakefield’s
Summer of Culture 2010, Beam is delighted to exhibit the work of
Wakefield-based artist & sculptor, Abu Jafar at Beam.

Located in the grounds of Beam’s headquarters at the Orangery, this sculptural
installation reflects Jafar’s response to the unique Grade II* listed
site and the changing urban landscape around it, specifically the new
Merchant Gate scheme. The work encourages the visitor to explore and
appreciate the site in a new way.

“HOPE@Beam is about celebrating
our ever-changing curiosity of mind and symbolises the beauty that
keeps us in wonder with every step we take and at every angle we look.
It is the endless journey to find a betterment of our unknown needs.  I
mean the journey on which we are going through our hopes and visions,
each day creating a new chapter and looking forward to seeing something
more that is undisclosed.”  Abu Jafar

Abu Jafar is a leading
visual artist and philosopher of the arts. Jafar takes his inspiration
from psychology, philosophy, and classical music as well as day-to-day
human existence.  By producing art that is far from traditional, he is
actively attempting to shatter staid ideas of the past regarding art.
His art is the synthesis of colour, element and presentation twisted
into unusual form.  Jafar is an Associate Member of the Royal British
Society of Sculptors.  He is currently has a studio base at The Art
House in Wakefield.
