The third event in the innovative Orangery Academy programme explores the value and potential of integrating the thinking of artists into the design and animation of the public realm - a provocative look at theory and practice, creativity and practicality.

Speakers include:
Walker and Bromwich, international artists currently developing new work for Wakefield Westgate Railway Station, will demonstrate how their work crosses between the gallery space and the public realm to respond to specific sites and communities.
Nick Ewbank, Director Nick Ewbank Associates, will talk about the arts’ role in regeneration and how Folkestone is re-crafting its image and reality through the Folkestone Triennial and other creative ventures.
Anthony Benson, Director, Allies and Morrison Urban Practitioners, will talk about the value of public art and give the latest update on the North West Public Art/Public Realm Scoping Study commissioned by PlacesMatter!
Facilitator: Robert Powell, Creative Director, Beam.

The Academy sessions will:
• Be relevant to local authority officers & members, arts and built environment professionals, community leaders, activists & anyone interested in finding out the latest thinking in placemaking.
• Be creative, informative and informal.
• Include innovative case studies.
• Facilitate discussion, debate, networking and knowledge-sharing.
• Inspire and equip participants to tackle the current challenges in place-making.
• Begin with a light lunch and conclude with afternoon cream tea in The Orangery Gardens!
