This month’s Artwalk sees the closing night of our popular Clare White exhibition of watercolours. The bright and colourful paintings have been on display since January and have been a huge hit with visitors, who have praised the vibrant interpretations of places visited by White on her travels, including Switzerland, Sicily and Barbados.

Some quotes from our guest book:
“Very interesting, I am really impressed by her style and use of colour, a really impressive exhibition. She should be better known.”
“Beautiful paintings, vibrant colours. I read of the exhibition whilst staying in St Ives!”
“Enjoyed seeing the bright sunny paintings on a cold January morning.”
Clare White was born in Sidmouth, Devon in 1903 and moved to St Ives Cornwall in 1949 where she became an active member of the renowned art colony alongside sculptor Barbara Hepworth and other such luminaries as potter Bernard Leach and painter Wilhelmina Barns-Graham. She loved to travel and paint and this exhibition features a selection of her original watercolours from around the world - as well as a new limited edition print of a painting she produced in St Ives featuring an iconic Hepworth sculpture.
