Commissioned artwork installed at the Darton Centre
New artwork has recently been installed at the Darton Centre, Barnsley as part of Beam’s management of public art commissioning at four new health centre’s in the area. The piece combines both visual and oral history archive material about the former Darton Urban District Council Offices, which stood on the new health centre site.
The artwork has been developed by Catherine Scriven, an artist who creates representational pieces in response to personal, social or heritage narratives through a digital combination of photographs, documents and maps. Catherine worked with community members including former Councillors, school children and Barnsley Museums Service amongst others to gather her research material.
This commission is part of the Barnsley LIFT art programme, an integrated process of creative engagement activities and permanent artworks for 4 new health sites across Barnsley managed by Beam for Barnsley Community Solutions.
