The Story Mine’, is a project supported by Heritage Lottery Fund and Derbyshire County Council to unearth and share stories from Markham Colliery, project managed by Beam
The website features the stories of the men who died in the three major disasters at Markham Colliery (1937, 38 & 73), alongside further information about mining life in the area. The information has been gathered by a volunteer research team using the resources at Derbyshire Record Office, Ancestry and other sources.

This project is being delivered in parallel with The Walking Together permanent installation, designed by artist Stephen Broadbent to commemorate 106 miners who died in 1937,1938 & 1973. Find out more here.
