Beam has been appointed by the Principal Towns team and the Stairfoot Ward Alliance at Barnsley Council to develop a creative commissioning programme to enhance the identity of the Stairfoot Basin area, Barnsley.

We’re delighted to announce that ‘Lenny & Whale’, a collaboration between artists Fabric Lenny and Katrina Whale, have been commissioned to create a playful permanent artwork aimed at engaging children. Artist Andrew Small will be developing two permanent commissions: the first focused on creating a key marker to promote a positive identity for Stairfoot; and the second to improve wayfinding along the Transpennine Trail.

Over the next few months we will be supporting the artists to creatively engage with local residents, children and young people during the concept development phase. Beam is working closely with a project steering group made up of Council and community representatives to guide the programme.
