Sounds of Dewsbury - Beam Arts UK

As part of the Dewsbury Creative Town Arts programme, artist Duncan Chapman and Manasamitra (also working with sound artist Sam Hodgson) have been making a Sound Trail that takes listeners on 3 routes round the town which will be launched during Heritage Open Days 2023.

Each focuses on a different way of experiencing the environment.

On Saturday 9th September 2023 Duncan Chapman will be leading 3 short (est 15 min) tours around the town centre listening to the sounds along the way.

11:30 – 11:45 #1: Is a journey round the newly commissioned ARTWORKS in the town centre and transforms visual aspects of them into music

12:30 – 12:45 #2: LOOKS UP at the skylines of the town centre and takes listeners on a journey from the Town Hall through the market looking up at the skylines

14:00 – 14:15 #3: Is a memory journey that takes listeners round some of the old buildings exploring Dewsbury’s HISTORY and HERITAGE.

Access – Mostly flat terrain but a bit of a hill in #1.
