Come and experience Japanese artist Seiko Kinoshita’s immersive contemporary textile installation combining hundreds of bobbins, cotton thread and a soundscape.

Free entry on Sunday 27^th October as part of the Discovery Days Festival – a chance to meet the artist!

Threading through communities – Lantern Walk

Start: George Street, Belper / End: St Peter’s Church

6pm – 8pm: Saturday 26^th October 2019

Free /drop in

Visitors will be guided by 100s of lanterns along George Street and at St Peter’s Church where refreshments will be available. The lantern walk will include poetry performances by Captive Audience Theatre Company. There’ll also be a short film of Seiko’s artistic journey through this commission including images from the lantern making workshops and Seiko’s research trip to a Japanese World Heritage Site- Tomioka Silk Mill and Usui Seishi Silk Mill.

Inspired by surrounding historical connections to Strutts North Mill, Seiko has engaged over 500 local residents and children in making Lanterns influenced by the original cotton bobbin design to illuminate this historically significant area in Belper.

Please note the route has uneven ground, but venues are wheelchair accessible
