Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Who are we?

Beam is a cultural development organisation working across the North of England.

We collaborate with Artists to shape inspiring, creative and inclusive public spaces for all, which are owned and loved by their communities. Our work supports positive community wellbeing and economic benefit.

What is public art?

Beam’s definition of ’Public Art’ is wide ranging and moves beyond a single artwork such as a sculpture in a public square. Artists working in public spaces today develop a deep understanding of place and create artworks which are highly relevant and accessible to their communities and context.

Artists may be heritage researchers, community activists, creative facilitators and more – their deep understanding of people and place informs public artworks which may be temporary or permanent in nature and could include artwork embedded into the fabric of new buildings or public spaces, lighting, digital works or many other forms.

Why be a trustee?

Being a trustee can bring numerous benefits and will depend on your area of interest, but will include opportunities to –

  • Expand your network;
  • Give back to artists and communities;
  • Have influence to shape innovative projects;
  • Receive training and support;
  • Increase learning through joining specific theme led sub groups (for example focusing on – equity and diversity, the environment or another relevant area of business focus);
  • Invitations to artwork unveilings and events as an ambassador for Beam.

Whilst the role of Trustee is a voluntary position we can offer travel expenses to enable meeting attendance.

Deadline for expressions of interest: Friday 29th April 2022
